The Irish Vocational Education Association (IVEA) today welcomed the announcement of the appointment of Seán Ó Foghlù as incoming Secretary General of the Department of Education and Skills.

IVEA General Secretary Michael Moriarty stated that he had worked with Mr Ó Foghlú during his time with the Department Building and Planning Unit, and looked forward to continuing that association over the coming years.
"This is a very difficult time for the education sector, under pressure from a range of resourcing cuts in the context of the serious worsening economic situation," said Mr Moriarty.

"The new Secretary General will face a difficult future and will need to keep the education stakeholders together in a most difficult time for all involved in education. We wish Mr Ó Foghlú well and have confidence he can steer the sector through these difficult times."

Mr Moriarty also congratulated outgoing Secretary General Brigid McManus for her dedicated service over the past seven years.
