The announcement of 219 new major school building projects, starting over the next five years, has been warmly welcomed by the Irish Vocational Education Association (IVEA).
IVEA General Secretary, Michael Moriarty says: 'This initiative is a statement of intent by the Minister. It is proactive in terms of setting out the government's strategy for the next five years and ensures that parents will have greater choice when it comes to choosing a school for their children. Equally, it will provide much needed work for those who might otherwise have no option but emigration.'

Mr Moriarty continues: We welcome the role that VECs will play in supporting delivery of some of the projects. We welcome the commitment of scarce resources in these prioritised projects at this time of difficulty for the economy. There remains no capital funding for adult and further education centres, however, and this will also be a priority for ETBs with expanded functions in the training sector.'
