ETBI welcomes the Minister for Education and Skills Ruairí Quinn T.D. moves to tackle the cost of school uniforms.
ETBI General Secretary Michael Moriarty comments:

ETBI welcomes the strengthening of the role of parents in how schools decide their policies on uniforms. It is important that parents are consulted on school policies that involve a cost to household budgets. The purchasing of school uniforms constitutes a significant annual expense in the majority of homes so school engagement with parents on this issue will hopefully serve to empower parents in relation this considerable annual expenditure.

ETB schools that are currently operating or introducing a uniform policy will be balloting parents during the current school year to ascertain their views. ETBs have always worked to provide the best quality education for their students and to assist students from disadvantaged backgrounds in accessing education. ETBs therefore very much welcome any move by the Department which assists our schools in supporting parents where possible.
